Call it innate, inborn, congenital, call it natural, or call it inherent.
No matter how "loving" we press our boys to be, they hunger and thirst for violence.
Why? Please someone answer that question for me.
We don't have television, video games, or outside influences that would cause my sweet little cherub to request a stretcher for his helicopter. Where does this come from?
Two weeks ago on our weekly library visit, we checked out a book about the fire station. Don't ask me why, but at the end there was an illustrated scene of an accident...no blood, but simply a man on a stretcher. Kid was instantly intrigued. So intrigued he did not want to progress and kept wanting to go back to the "stretcher part". He didn't know stretchers are typically used for major injuries, that they are frequently accessorized with blood and other bodily fluids. Nope. He was just candidly interested. This whole "congenital issue" goes right along with guns, knives, pirates, war play, etc. No matter how long I have held off this type of imaginative play, I'm finding there is nothing I can do to avoid it. They're boys. They're bred to protect and provide.
So as long as I monitor such play and encourage open conversation about such topics, my boys, will in fact, turn out to be normal and loving, right? Anyone? Anyone?
