Where it all happens.
This patio serves as an entry, but has many more purposes.
Our great room (and only room) has a slider that looks out to this entry/patio.
When I viewed it with our realtor for the first time (in it's complete sixties glory--with a wooden shingled door and a lion knocker), I just knew the patio would be the place.
Any mother can agree that even with the largest of homes, the kids want to be where you are. It can be fortunate and unfortunate, depending on the situation. I don't do well with ankle biting, so an open floor plan and an outdoor area viewable from the kitchen/living area were a must.
I knew that my kids could play contently a few feet away because they could see and hear me.
This theory that I had has been proven true. There is very little ankle biting in this home.
This patio gets it's use.
Meals and snacks are eaten out here.
Toys are dragged out here.
Games are played out here.
Babies coo and bounce out here.
Scooters are ridden out here.
And it's all seen from the kitchen, where I spend most of my day (when we're at home, that is).
All five tend to be content outdoors. Being a few feet away from them while maintaining a clean home has been an absolute blessing (and has kept me sane).
Yes, two out of five are still in skivvies. Feet are dirty already and this was taken at 9am. Bubbles have been blown and stamps cover their bodies. It's where it all the activity happens.
