My heart is still beating and my kid is still breathing. Both good things.
Preface: Everett for the last month has been quite the speeder in his walker. The kid can navigate his way everywhere! He's super fast and all over the place. He's now getting into drawers, cabinets and speeds his way over to the fridge when spotting an open door. He's crazy.
So, that being said... he can now navigate his way through doorways.
This is why Canada banned walkers and why the US requires all new walkers to be sold with automatic stoppers that stop the walker when a stair or change of elevation is triggered (which Jason so easily removed for a smoother stride when Carter was a little one!).
Our garage is approximately 2 feet of a drop from the kitchen. I have learned once not to leave the door open as I hear Carter yelling, "Everett, get out of my way, please!" as he's jammed in the doorway, head of the walker in the garage, tail of the walker in the kitchen. Thankfully he was just stuck at a 90 degree angle.
SO, back to my near-heart attack.
Today Carter and I were in the garage, I left the door slightly open, my new habit as I know if Everett speeds his way over, the door will only close. Well speedy learned how to open the door and wheeled very quickly through the door, to take a nose dive off the step. This time it didn't stop and kept going, thanks to his chunky legs that added a bit more momentum than last time. I watched as my baby boy sprung straight to the concrete, head hitting the ground, and neck springing back. Heart stopped.
I grab him out of the walker, whisked him over, sat down and slowly looked to make sure he could move his head. He was crying, loud. That was good. I go to breastfeed him to calm him down so I can be sure he's fine. I call Carter over to have him pray with me, then the chubby baby looks up at his momma and babbles, "baba dada", then throws some raspberries in there. Hmmn. The second kid. Cheers to the many nose-dives we'll be witnessing in the future.
On a different note, a moment I just remembered that happened earlier today:
E: "Whaaaa whaaa" (baby language, "my teeth hurt!")
C: "Mommy, Everett is choosing to have a bad attitude".
Well, they sure do pick up words and context quickly at this age. :-)
