Carter is above and beyond into tractors, trains, cranes, and anything mighty. We've been busy at the library checking out anything to do with the subjects. I feel bad for the other kids as I think we have every book based on tractors in our household. Carter studies these books for hours. He asks the different parts and now knows as much as the books will explain!
On our trip to Sonora, the Watkins were doing a little bit of yard work (of course with tractors, who doesn't have a backhoe and a bulldozer to do some clean up work with?). Carter was enthralled. While the other kids enjoyed the bonfire, Carter spent his time identifying the bucket, the backhoe, the arm, the tracks, etc. Here are some picts of his heavenly moment:
Also, Carter has never been one to attach himself to a television or book character (ie: Barney, Doodlebops, etc.)... I think that mainly has to do with not watching much television, but still I was waiting for him to actually be interested in some type of character so that I can say no to the hideous light up shoes or the cartoony-graphic tee... well, he's found his friend. Meet Thomas.
We rent videos from the library since we don't have television. I rented Thomas the Tank Engine because I know that they have cranes and helicopters on it. I didn't know how serious and boring they were! Not kidding, these videos are a mix of Mr. Rogers and those old clay movies. Anyway, the kid loves them, and since his "video time" proceeds nap time, I walk in to a plush-faced, sleepy-eyed blondie whose first words are "OOOOh, we get to watch Thomas the Tank Engine!".
