Unconventional Turns Conventional

Today was a beautiful day, the warmest it's been in a few weeks. The kids and I were loaded in the car, lunches packed, and ready to hit a park we have yet to play at. There are not a lot of parks in Simpleville, I'm not sure why, but it's just not that kind of town (I do miss my park-on-every-corner neighborhood at times). So heading to the park is more of a half-day adventure.
I digress.
To our dismay, we pull into the old park I remember from my brothers' childhood ball games to find workers completely tearing it a part (which in the end benefits everyone since it was getting quite shabby). The kids were a bit bummed, but I decided to use it as an opportunity to explore somewhere new. We headed to a place I've wanted to scout out for a while, another old childhood baseball field with a large historical building that sits just above it. I was surprised at how dissapointed they were to not be attending a park. I told them it was time to explore and make the best of our situation. Within minutes, they were running, finding items for their nature jars and enjoying the sun.
They wrestled, ran up and down all the steps, played Star Wars with sticks, you know the stuff boys do.
Honey had a good ole time. Mommy learned not to put white tights on her, ever.
It was a good reminder to me at how important it is to let kids go wild, sometimes without structures or a plan.

Chatty Catch-Up

The boys are at fantastic ages for entertaining sayings and doings, and unfortunately, I haven't been documenting most of them. I had to write down a few of the latest conversations and sayings as they keep getting more and more interesting!
Discovery:
Kid (picking through his toes and discovering sock remnants): What's this stuff?
Me: It's called toe lint...it's from the cotton in your socks, little pieces get stuck between your toes.
Kid: Cool!
*Next Day*
Kid: Mommy, can I please wear the red socks today?
Me: Sure, why?
Kid: I want red toe lint!
*That Night*
Daddy: What are you grateful for today?
Kid: Red toe lint
*Nice*
Concentration:
Kid's been into Legos lately. "Into" is a light word for it, obsessed, really. He spends a lot of his day constructing, taking a part, constructing again. The other day Bee was watching his post-nap video. Kid starting making frustrating noises...
Me: What's the problem, Kid?
Kid: This "baby" video is SO distracting, it just keeps on distracting me and I can't focus on my task at hand. (yikes, I must say those words a lot!)
The Perfect Wife:
Daddy was telling the boys a bedtime story about Esther. He somehow turned it into a pep talk on finding the right wife who will love the Lord, be smart, beautiful, funny, and strong.
Kid: Well, Lilly is smart, she runs fast, and she's very pretty. She would make a good wife!
For the Love of Food:
Bee has always associated food with feelings and feelings with food. It used to concern me, but now I just roll with it and use it to my advantage. When I make his favorite meals, he boasts of his love for his Mommy. As in tonight's meal...
Bee: Mommy, this is sooo delicious. I LOOOOVE beans and rice. I LOOOOOVE you. I just love you and what you made!
Jesus All the Way:
We decorated for Christmas today. Bee kept singing, "Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jesus all the way...". Kid corrected him and Bee responded, "No, I like Jesus, I like MY song with Jesus in it". Tell him, Bee.
Muscle Man:
Bee's a bit of a muscle man. He's built solid with a broad chest and beefy calves. I love it. He's my little Tarzan. At the end of our run, I have the kids "exercise" with me. They run the last tiny portion, just to get fresh air in their lungs and stretch out their legs a bit. Kid can barely beat Bee. Every time I do encourage Bee that he is very fast. On Friday, Bee stopped after my encouragement and said, "I let Kid win". Just like that.
