As stated below. I used to sand and paint virtually everything decor-oriented... it was the poor-man's version of setting up house. Well, that and I like it better a certain color.... why spend a ton of money on something that you're not going to be in love with anyway?
So yesterday, I rekindled a love of mine. Thrifting. In fact, my favorite piece of furniture in the house is from the thrift store's dumpster. That's right, it wasn't even good enough to keep for the store. A little sandage, paint, new hardware and it's perfect.

Thrifting is not compatible with two kids under three in tow, in fact, that's why I've avoided the Salvation Army for the last two years. Little fingers have plenty to touch and break, not to mention the germs involved. I bypassed the phobia and went onward to search for something to fill this horrible void on my kitchen wall.
Found it.
Who doesn't like ducks? Kidding Kidding. These ducks were given one last wish before being laid to rest under layers and layers of chalkboard paint. And the mauve matte surrounding? Well, she got a little touch up as well. And as for the sand-blasted pink frame--metallic gold covered each of her woody grains.
The final product? A nine-dollar chalkboard for that lonely place-and a place to write sweet somethings to my lover and our offspring. Cheers to chalk.
Must add that I bought Carter two shirts for $3... thrifting is the new Target.
